GREEN BAY — With help from an anonymous donor, the Green Bay Press-Gazette and the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation’s Stock the Shelves campaign has raised $76,280, exceeding its $75,000 goal for local food pantries.

The initiative to aid 10 food pantries in Brown, Door, Kewaunee and Oconto counties this season was nearing the goal Nov. 23, when an anonymous donor approached Press-Gazette president and publisher Kevin Corrado and helped close the gap.

“The generosity of our community for this important cause is another reason why this continues to be a great place to live,” said David Pamperin, president of the Community Foundation. “Caring for our neighbors and helping those who need support is important.”

Corrado added, “We can’t thank our readers and co-sponsors enough for their contributions, and our hope is that this will make the holidays brighter for our neighbors.”

In addition to the matching funds from partners J. J. Keller Foundation, Express Convenience Centers and Brown County credit unions, Stock the Shelves received more than 160 individual donations, including a $5,000 contribution from Georgia-Pacific Corp.

Funds will be distributed to participating food pantries before Christmas.
