APPLETON — A single mother to three children — one with a disability — is a new homeowner through partnering with Habitat for Humanity. The ninth home to be dedicated this year was built with funds from the J.J. Keller Foundation as well as volunteers from Rawhide Boys Ranch. The family, who wishes to remain anonymous, is grateful for all of the support from the community. Mary Harp-Jirschele, executive director of the J.J. Keller Foundation, said many individuals benefitted from the partnership. "It really is a win-win situation for all involved. The J.J. Keller Foundation is pleased to support both Habitat and Rawhide," she said. The construction of the bi-level, three-bedroom, one-bath home was built with the help of individuals from Rawhide who learned and improved skills while on the construction site. Earl Schmoll, About Face Project Coordinator from Rawhide, coordinated the volunteers who worked on the home. "This is a particularly special project," said Schmoll. "Ten years ago when I began working with Rawhide, our first project was building with Habitat. To see more of our boys benefit and grow as individuals from working on a Habitat home is just great." Habitat for Humanity is a home ownership program for hardworking families in need of a simple, decent and affordable home. An affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Greater Fox Cities Area Habitat for Humanity has built more than 100 affordable homes in the Fox Valley. |
