OSHKOSH — Thanks to a grant from the J. J. Keller Foundation, we were able to help 115 children get new shoes this month. When the children go to school they have shoes that fit and no longer have holes in them. Many children were wearing shoes that were so worn out that when it is wet outside, they spent their whole school day with wet socks. Many of the children were also wearing shoes that didn't fit or shoes that were held together with duct tape. Thanks to the J. J. Keller Foundation which helps with basic needs in the community, these kids will have dry feet and shoes that fit. This made such a difference for so many children who really needed new shoes now that is getting colder out. Flip - flops are not really appropriate for this time of year, but many of the children were still wearing them because that is all they had. As you can tell the weather is turning cooler, so we will be helping children with warmer clothing this next month. You will be surprised how many kids don't own a winter jacket and won't even have a sweatshirt to put on. If you are trying to pay your rent and feed your children things like winter clothes just aren't in the budget. Thanks to the many members of Take 5 Club, we will be able to help many kids stay warm and fit in at school. |
