Another Do It! win for caring community

APPLETON — Once again, you have made a remarkable difference.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Four weeks ago, The Post-Crescent asked for your help — and your money — in helping upwards of 1,500 Fox Valley kids get the school year off to a great start.

And boy, did you come through.

We set a $25,000 goal for our Do It! Community Challenge for the Community Clothes Closet's "Being Cool for School" campaign. When donations were counted by the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region, the total was $26,156.

One more time: Thank you.

Here's what your generosity and community spirit did: The Community Clothes Closet donated clothing, underwear, socks, school supplies and certificates for shoes to 1,982 kids from 892 families at Saturday's "Being Cool for School" event at CCC's Menasha facility. Recipients of the material must be registered with the CCC.

Those numbers are staggering increases over last year's totals of 1,003 children from 382 families.

We thought the one-time effort for this program would resonate throughout the Fox Valley, and your donations proved that we were correct.

Thanks also go to Curt Detjen, president/ CEO of the Community Foundation, and Mary Harp-Jirschele, executive director of the J. J. Keller Foundation. In early July, we asked them for suggestions for our Do It! campaign — with the caveat that it be focused on help for children — and they both suggested "Being Cool for School."

The names of all donors to the "Being Cool for School" Do It! campaign are in an ad on Page C-10 in today's P-C.

If your name is on the list, thanks. If not, we'll have more opportunities soon. Our annual "Stock the Shelves" Do It! campaign is coming up in October.
