OSHKOSH — We are usually not at a loss for words at this venue but the generosity of the J. J. Keller Foundation this week leaves us speechless.

"Wow" and "Thank You" on behalf of Oshkosh will have to suffice.

The foundation made a $50,000 contribution to the Oshkosh Area Community Food Pantry this week, pushing charitable giving by the Keller family over $30 million. In recognition of reaching the milestone, the foundation added $30,000 to its donation to the food pantry. In addition, the Keller Foundation donated $100,000 to the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation to replenish the J. J. Keller Foundation Donor Advised Fund administered by the foundation.

The impact of the Keller Foundation donations is hard to overstate. For the food pantry it means that it will be funded for the remainder of the year and be able to serve 2,200 families per month, three times the number of families it served when it opened its doors at its Jackson Street location in 2009.

"We, of course, were just blown away by that," said Steve Vickman, executive of the food pantry. He told the Northwestern that the food pantry has struggled to keep up with rising demand for food since opening its current site on Jackson Street two years ago.

The donation to the food pantry is a continuation of the impact the Keller Foundation has had on the Oshkosh community. The foundation, which had its beginnings in 1990, has donated $382,000 to organizations and programs for basic human needs in Oshkosh through a donor advised fund that was established in 2007. Another $239,000 in matching grants have been given to support nonprofits in Winnebago and Green Lake counties.

Like we said, "Wow".
