J. J. Keller Foundation Puts Out Fires at Onaway Island
|
| |
NEENAH, WI (June 2, 2009) –The Boys' & Girls' Brigade recently was awarded a $6,400 gift from the J. J. Keller
Foundation to replace the fire pump at 100-year-old Camp Onaway Island in Waupaca
and to provide scholarships for camp fees and Brigade memberships to children in
need.
Camp Onaway Island is not accessible to local fire departments because of its island
location. “It is critical to safety and preservation for Onaway to have its own fire
department with reliable equipment,” stated Brigade executive director John Dery. “We
are so grateful to the Keller Foundation for meeting this very important need.” Brigade
staff are trained in fire fighting by various fire department personnel volunteering their
time and expertise.
“In this difficult economic climate the Kellers have also made it possible for struggling
families to still send their children to camp and help them become a part of the
leadership and character development programs within the Brigade,” said Dery. “All
applications for financial assistance to Brigade programs and Camp Onaway are kept
confidential. This community is certainly blessed by the generosity of the Kellers, they
have very big hearts.”
The Boys' & Girls' Brigade is currently accepting registration for Camp Onaway and for
the Brigade fall program. For more information about registrations and scholarships call
920-725-3983 or visit the web at www.bgbrigade.com.
